Make It Yourself: French Fries

Yummy!  Who does not love french fries?

I love to make my own french fries because is saves me time, money and preservatives.  How so?  Well, let me count the ways...
  1. I don't always have frozen french fries in the freezer, but I do usually have potatoes in the cupboard.
  2. Traditional bags of fries are somewhat expensive, have loads of preservatives and are not fresh.  I have tried frozen organic french fries.  These were good, but still not fresh and even more expensive.
  3. Homemade is more nutritious, especially since I leave the skins on!
Here is how I make my own french fries:

First, I wash and cut the potatoes into stick-like shapes:

Next, I load them onto baking sheets (leave enough room for them to lay in a single layer on the sheet).  I drizzle them with olive oil, sprinkle with seasoned salt and toss to coat.

Bake in a 425 degree oven for about 40 minutes (turning every 15 minutes or so), or until crisp and tender inside.

Serve and enjoy!

And make sure to share...

Hi

Thanks for sharing the recipe. Had a question about the recipe. When you say you have to turn every 15 minutes means , I have to take out the fries and turn each one over or just turn the sheet around

Thanks,
Nalini

Sorry for the confusion! I mean to flip them over with a spatula on the pan (so that all sides get crispy and equally done).

I also love to make my own fries. I do almost everything like you do, but I have a Pampered Chef Crinkle Cutter. The shape of the fries helped convince DH that homemade fries might be ok. But I also discovered that I can use it to make sweet potato fries! I find sweet potatoes really hard to cut with a regular knife, but this makes it simple!

mj - GREAT idea! I have a crinkle cutter too, which of course, I just do not use enough. I will have to give it a whirl!
